Would you also like to be folded into online learning community? If so, the Training Team for national Chi Alpha is rolling out an interactive learning experience just for you.
A Mentern (mentee + intern) is a self-directed person-in-training fully integrated into a national Chi Alpha online learning community. The Menternship will instruct and equip you in the competencies and capabilities of Servant-Leadership. Your local campus missionary will serve as your local mentor. You will also network with a cohort group of fellow Menterns on other campuses all the while interacting with an online instruction team of experienced campus missionaries from across the country. The Menternship will work hand-in-glove with your local campus missionary encouraging you to serve the needs of the Chi Alpha group by using your unique gifts. In addition, the Menternship will equip you to take the lead on some new ministry opportunities within your Chi Alpha group.
The world is in desperate need for an ethical, authentic, and spiritual leadership that serves others, invests in their personal growth, and helps them fulfill a shared vision. In servant leadership, self-interest gives way to a collective mission.
A richly researched discipline, servant leadership theory focuses on eleven characteristics that identify a servant leader. A true servant leader develops and continues to improve in these characteristics. The eleven include: a calling, listening, empathy, healing, self-awareness, persuasion, foresight, growth, missional living, critical thinking, and building community. Jesus epitomized these qualities, and they encompass the curricula of the 10-month Menternship.
The Menternship is delivered in eight 4-week modules that focus on the eleven characteristics of Servant Leadership. There are four modules in the fall and four modules in the spring. Plan on 15 hours per week of direct involvement in the Menternship plus whatever you work out with your campus missionary for on-campus service.
Your Chi Alpha director serves as your local mentor, while you interact with an online instruction team. You are also placed in an online cohort of Menterns from other universities.
This is a learner-based approach, so you will receive information through podcasts, videos on-demand, animated slideshows, academic articles, and webinars. Each module includes a major project. In addition, you will participate in threaded dialogues. If you can devise a better project than those provided, you may do it with permission from your online instructor.
Each of eight 4-week module is facilitated by an online team of instructors. Some are new missionaries while others have decades of Chi Alpha leadership experience.
The Menternship is a feedback-rich learning experience. You will interact with your online cohort peers as well as the module team. The team encourages, educates, enlightens, and exposes you to a deeper understanding of yourself, others, and enriches your leadership practice. We are all eager to meet you online in a virtual learning community.
Since the Menternship is delivered online, it can serve several audiences:
The Menternship program fee is $400 for the year. If you are able to pay the entire fee up-front you will receive a $45 discount (i.e. $650 total program fee).
